Abortion Facts

One of the most difficult subjects for Spirit to address in a way that does not cause offence is that of Abortion. Whilst occupying an earthly body it is extremely difficult for most people to be able to view this subject without prejudice.

We feel that it would be beneficial to define the word ‘abortion’ at this point. For something to have been ‘aborted’ simply means that it was stopped and it is a general term that is used for many things; e.g. a scientific project may be declared no longer viable and the decision made to halt it before it’s planned or natural conclusion. In this instance it is quite likely to be described as having been aborted.

Pregnancy

It also applies to the ending of a pregnancy before the foetus has grown to a size whereby it is able to survive outside the uterus. This can happen for many reasons and can be a source of great concern. Most cultures have a term to cover the meaning of the abortion of a foetus through non-interference, e.g. miscarriage.

What most people mean when they use the term abortion with regard to the ending of a pregnancy is for that pregnancy to have been deliberately ended by man’s intervention. This is a very emotive subject for many reasons and is the cause of much distress. All the world’s cultures and religions have strong opinions and laws’ regarding this subject and it is not the purpose of this article to discuss them.

What happens to a foetus that does not reach full term?

The physical body of a foetus that dies before it leaves the uterus is expelled or removed from the womb and is dealt with in the manner of the culture into which it would otherwise have been born. If the pregnancy had reached a stage that a Spirit had been implanted into the foetus, the Spirit is met as it leaves the physical body in the same way that it would have been if it had managed to achieve an independent life on the earth plane first. The Spirit is then cared for and is able to ‘grow up’ within the Spirit World. There are people within spirit who specialise in the field of caring for the Spirits of babies and children who did not make it to adulthood while still on the earth plane. During this time, the Spirit learns many things in just the same way that they would have done on the earth plane and spends time with members of the family who are already in spirit that they would have been part of on the earth plane.

This is the case for all Spirits who return home before birth or during babyhood and childhood including those whose earthly life experience was ended deliberately. It is not the fault of the Spirit that it returned home early and there could be no possible reason for it to be excluded or punished in any way. If you have been told differently please disregard what you have been told.

When does the Spirit enter the foetus?

As mentioned in Look Within, the Spirit is implanted into the foetus at around the 12th week of pregnancy. The Guides who have been appointed to be with this Spirit during it’s time on the earth plane will be in attendance from this point and will, of course, be aware if the foetus is not going to survive long enough to live outside it’s Mother’s body.

The reason that the Spirit is not implanted into the embryo before the 12th week of pregnancy is because these first weeks carry the highest risk of the embryo not developing to the point of potential survival. A relatively high number of potential pregnancies abort without the Mother having any idea that it was a possibility and the body deals with this naturally. To implant a Spirit at the embryonic stage would mean a great many more would return home to the Spirit World without experiencing the intended life on the earth plane. Although every Spirit that makes the decision to have a life on the earth plane is aware of this risk, the embryo does not need the Spirit in order to reach the foetal stage so therefore it is sensible to wait until that time is established and when the chances of success are very much higher.

The decision to end a pregnancy

When most non-medical people refer to an abortion, they are meaning the ending of a pregnancy by choice. This is something that has become much safer with the advances in medical science but also more complex as those same advances in medical science have ensured the survival of more babies when they leave the uterus before full term.

The most difficult question for a human being to answer when considering this option is whether it is ever right to do so. We refer you here to the article entitled Free Will. Despite the emotive nature of this decision, like every decision made during an earthly life, it is the responsibility of the person living that life to decide whether to continue with the pregnancy at that time is the right thing to do. There are likely to be many factors to consider at such a time and not all of them are how the parents may be affected but also the foetus.

Like all the decisions taken during an earthly life, upon return to spirit this one will be evaluated in the same way as all the others. At this point the person concerned will decide if they made the correct decision at that time and will come to understand what they need to do in order to make any reparation that is necessary to make.

The same factors apply as with any other decision made – the circumstances at that time, what those circumstances are likely to be in the future, whether the matter has been fully and carefully thought through and whether the decision is being taken with full regard for all those involved and the seriousness of the matter.

Spirit will not tell you that there is a right or wrong decision to be made in this instance any more than they will in any other. We will however, tell you that when the time comes to return home, anyone taking the decision to end a pregnancy will review that decision along with every other decision they made and action they took and will deal with the matter whilst in spirit.

As with any other decision, what is most important is that the matter was dealt with from a sincere heart and in the best way that was possible at that time. To regard the termination of a pregnancy as no more than a method of birth control, would be to treat the matter lightly and further thought would be strongly advised.
